man..... just....man.... i've heard almost all there is to hear now, but theres nothing like ridin' the hill! He's just TO great to be real! and YES greater in my opnion than Robert! Robert had long fingers..so what.. King Solomon Hill... its like everytime you hear his voice, theres a death letter in your mail box!

@3006khz I would say definately a resonator maybe played lapstyle. He also used a cowbone for a slide....bone gives a real sweet sound.

Hi Steve. I see that Joe Holmes was an early 'King of the blues'.What a great example of that vocal style of those years.I think it is derived from street performing,in loud places,in order for the voice to 'carry'.(without amplifiers) Thanks for blues post.
