Temecula, California - Shortly before 2pm a wildfire broke out near the intersection of Keller Road and Pourroy Road in the unincorporated area of Winchester, north of Temecula. The cause of this fire is currently under investigation.
The fire has burned over 20 acres and no structures are threatened. Our goal is to knock down the flames and get Winchester Road back open for the afternoon commute said Captain Sean Dakin of the Riverside County Fire Dept at about 230pm in a phone interview.
Indeed, as of 430pm Winchester and Scott roads were both open for traffic. According to the Fire Dept, crews will remain in the area, so motorists should exercise caution when driving thru the area. The fire consumed a total of 205 acres, damaged no structures, cause no injuries and was halted by the hard work of the Riverside County Fire Dept and a land owner who had recently plowed their field. A total of 135 firefighters, 2 helicopters and a bulldozer aided in protecting structures and kept the fire from jumping across State Highway 79.
