The Stadium is/was a part of the identity of the University. Those responsible for making this decision, were not worthy to even polish the shoes of the Pitt athletes that have performed in the stadium and brought great honor to the university. Imagine the reaction if the Greek government had the affrontery to announce plans to demolish the Parthenon. There would be a revolution. US citizens tend to respond more like sheep.
The demolition of Pitt Stadium is a historical/cultural crime of the same magnitude as the demolition of Forbes Field, the demolition of Three Rivers Stadium and/or would be the demolition of the Roman Coliseum. Think of the athletic achievements that have been performed there over the decades. Yet this historical monument has been demolished, this memorial has been erased at the behest of pencil pushing "bean counters" in their quest to improve the universities "bottom line".
