@WernerFunk My local Gas Co. uses CNG to run their service trucks and cars.

I doubt it's nearly so difficult for nitrous systems or turbos to get approved, so why CNG?

Oil companies politics no matter what the epa says. They are the modern day mafia. It does.t pay in the long run anyway. Soon as a new fuel gets popularized its price is jacked by the monopolizers. Energy should be nationalized and not controlled by profiteering pirate corporate assholes

I got into an impromptu debate with an EPA rep at a car show in California. His agenda was to popularize a hybrid vehicle already sold here. It became quickly obvious that he was not prepared to defend the EPA certification process and it's inherent difficulty. This point was driven home when I told him that the vehicle I wanted to convert was an F-250 diesel. His colleagues admitted that it would run more cleanly if converted. But nobody could tell me how to do it legally! Good luck Werner!

Stupid goverment.

I wasn't aware that it might be against the law to convert a car to CNG. I knew the EPA has a list of "approved" cars that qualify for tax credits. Sorry, but I didn't check with the government before converting my vehicle to CNG. Let's see if the government trys to punish me for switching to an alternative fuel that pollutes less than gasoline.

I converted my car to CNG. I don't think the EPA representative really understands about CNG as a fuel. Harm to engine! Did she say the government wants to protect my engine from harm by natural gas? Pollution! Is it even possible for a poorly maintained CNG car to pollute more than one that runs on gasoline?
You are only partially correct. Yes, prices will probably go up when everyone is using it, but there are some great options available. You can buy the natural gas from the utility not the oil companies. You can refuel your natural gas vehicle right in your garage.
