Toyota has developed a safety system that can automatically stop a car in the moments before a collision with a pedestrian. The system uses a millimeter wave radar and stereo camera to constantly monitor what's in front of the vehicle.

  • What if I'm trying to herd my cows and I need to bump them to get em' to move?

  • thats a good feature but its also an easy way to get into an accident with another car or if your going faster ive seen alot of people get hit by cars going atleats 35 to 40 and this doesnt seem to detect a padestrain that far away and on a buisy road or something itll cause an accident it may not but thats my opinion

  • BMW demonstrated a similar automatic braking system at the ESV conference in Washington back in June.

The challenge for any device intended to increase the margin of safety is the tendency for many drivers to compensate for it with their own risky behavior.

  • @need1992 Lexus is Toyota`s luxury division...

  • @hkpyou you mean city safety that only works when you're going 9mph?

  • Lexus is the luxury vehicle division of Japanese automaker Toyota

  • Instead of suddenly applying brakes, why dont it slow down lets say 10 meters ahead and then stop if the pedestrian till there. Its comfortable for passengers inside also.

  • i wonder how many people want to try out this system on the street. i also wonder, if it is 100% failure proof.. probably not.

i predict that collisions with pedestrians actually occur more often once this car is released.
