Former Penn State coach Joe Paterno spoke to The Washington Post Saturday, and said he "didn't know which way to go" after an assistant coach told him he'd seen retired defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky sexually abusing a boy. (Jan. 14)

  • @ThePopeII When you know of someone, an adult, sexually asaulting a little boy you go tell the police. You don't go to your bosses and say "we have a problem". Some one in his position should know that. He deserved to get fired, even if he has cancer. I sympathize with the the innocents, not with the"famous" coach who knew about it.

  • Sandusky's wife is just as guilty, she knew Sandusky was molesting boys in her very own house but she ignored it, pretending she did not hear the boy's cry for help.

  • Why did they bury Joe Paterno in a pink casket? Because the coksuker was dead! Good riddance to a horrible enabler, may you rot in hell!

  • @MrRealityCheque, they weren't friends. Joe didn't like Sandusky. He was acting politically, that is, preserving the patriarchy and power structure that allows persons in power to do anything with little risk of consequence. (for proof, see this case. Sandusky was protected by everyone involved. Because he was respectable. What kind of world is it where your position, not your actions, dictate whether or not you are held accountable?)

We, the US, needs to change how we deal with accusations.

  • You know what you don't do? You don't wait 9 years to see if he's charged. You punch him in the face. You go to the Police. If the police don't act, you go to the press. You go to his charity. You don't let him walk through your locker room with kids, you don't let him continue to work out and abuse children on your campus. You are an adult. You stop it. There's no excuse. Stop excusing yourself. Apologize. People were raped because you chose to act like a child. You are an adult. Man up.

  • i'll play the devil's advocate here and say that JoePa probably thought he was protecting his friend even though he knew he was doing something wrong.

It's like when our school prefects catch someone breaking a school rule that should get them kicked out- they try to solve the problem internally rather than bringing it to the attention of the high authorities and ruining the kid's life.

Of course this is more extreme, but most people are hesitant to accuse someone of child abuse, think aboutMJ

  • McQueary's testimony at the preliminary hearing makes clear that the Grand Jury report overstated what McQueary actually witnessed. He actually only witnessed Sandusky bear-hugging a boy from behind. He just assumed that it was anal intercourse but saw no penetration or erection. Nor did McQueary see what made the slapping sounds he assumed were sex sounds. He also heard no words or sounds from either Sandusky or the boy.

Even if Paterno they may have done nothing as they did in 1998.

  • And the football cult goes on. New coach highest paid employee, guaranteed 5% increase each year despite performance while faculty and staff told no money for raises and student

tuition goes up -- Erickson traipses around telling alumni nothing -- hope Corbett's budget

gives this place ZERO next year!

  • @ThePopeII Go read guarddog22's response that's exactly how I feel about the Mr.wonderful Jo Pa and his 46+ years as a football coach. Bottom line is he should have done more to protect those lil boys, especially if the asshole's above him wouldn't, couldn't or simply didn't give a shit.I'm not a perfect person by any means, but in this situation you better beIieve I would have done the RIGHT thing and protected those boys even if it meant I lost my precious coaching job.

  • @LCenterR But Joe DID talk to the man with authority over the police (Schultz) and told him he needed to speak with the witness (McQueary). At the time, Joe probably thought it was one step better than "just calling the police" because Schultz could have walked into the police station and said "Make this case our top priority." I have no idea why Curley and Schultz decided that "no crime had occurred," but Joe's only failing was that he trusted them to take appropriate action.

  • @MadstoneBaby Sorry, I assumed your comment was about Paterno since he's the subject of this video. If your comment was about Sandusky, then I have no problem with it.

  • "Sexually abusing"? "Showering with a boy"? From what I remember, I believe he said Sandusky was ANALLY RAPING a 10 year old. Stop trying to make it sound like less than it was.
