Listen to Sammy's 1987 solo album - absolutely great guitar playing.

Samm';s guitar playing is good enough. I've always especially liked his playing during the bridge section of "Heavy Metal" or while he's doing the main riff to "This Planet's On Fire".

I have to give Sammy credit when credit is due..
He kept his hair style, and guitar syle forever thru.
His music has been spine chillin since 1974
And he never fails to pack the house and the entrance at the front door.
Keep gong forever ..Red-Rocker!!

long live the RED ROCKER!!! Sammy was the $hit long before Van-Hagar! both were better prior to the union...in my humble opinion

You've got a great ear...I almost missed that ( it is the Peter Green Fleetwood Mac song...)

Sammy Hagar is a great guitar player, Eddie actually didn't like the fact that Sammy played . Thats why he has only played back up on a couple of VH songs, Ed knew that Sammy was good, and he didn't want any of the spot light taken off of him.
The guitar he is using is one of his own designs. Its discontinued now, its a Yamaha AES620 SH. This guitar is still made, just not the Sammy Hagar model with the Cabo Wabo inlay.

@Hotdog40404040404 it's a secret satanic message XD

You know what ...Eddie Van Halen has been a run of the mill guitar player since 1982...there I said it
-
@Leatt2 Eddie can't even play guitar anywhere close to "Eddie" anymore
-
@sjdanthem -- No doubt! Show of hands...how many people know that Sammy was the front man for Montrose back in the 70s!!
I'm glad someone else noticed!!!! Sammy has been doing this a long time and no one ever gives him credit for his guitar. He runs the show,sings and rocks on guitar!!!! Thank GOD for SAMMY HAGAR!!!!

Well, Sammy Hagar's pretty modest about his guitar playing. In a Chickenfoot article recently, he jokes that he "plays as well as Joe [Satriani] can sing". He's never claimed to be as good as Eddie Van Halen. At any rate, he's playing traditional blues-based rock here. Can't really compare it with Van Halen's almost sci-fi style.
