SANTO DOMINGO: Video Tour of the Metro

During my most recent visit to the Dominican Republic's capital city, I took a ride aboard Santo Domingo's Metro, a sleek and modern mass transit system that debuted in 2008. It doesn't connect many locations important to vacationer or international business travelers yet (more lines are planned for the future), but it's still an interesting and fun new way to see the city!

@SFV818Si Im just saying, Central America and the Caribbean have been known to be the child that no one cares about.....is good to see that's changing. Look at Panama City (tallest buildings in Latin America by far), the HDI of San Jose, Costa Rica....Santo Domingo is also progressing considering how fucked up we have been in the past....less than 10 years later it looks a complete DIFFERENT city.

Is nice to see that economic progress is coming to many places now :)

@SFV818Si You don't know history right? Look up SD 15-20 years ago and you'll look at a big city that looks like a town with some buldings. Now you can see modern minimalistic buildings everywhere...mostly built after the economic collapse of 2003. Medellin, Colombia is the only city in that country with a metro since the 1980's...ours is much better. All those other countries (exept US cuz it isn't Latin A.) are about 200 times bigger than the DR with much much bigger cities.

DR is a hundred years behind most Latin American countries. Brasil,Mexico,USA,Colombia and Argentina etc have metros/subways pushing over 100 years. The fact that DR is barely getting these is sad.

@eledwyn1 thats because its newer. I live in Buenos Aires and this subway system is almost 100 years old, obviously the stations in santo domingo are going to have more modern architecture, but here like in various cities, its a subway SYSTEM and not just one subway line.

Y cual Gobierno hizo toto esto? LEONEL. Es una buena inversion, la gente no tienen que levantarse a las 5 am para estar a las 8 am en el trabajao. No se pueden dormir hasta las 7 y despues se van. Si el gobierno va a cambiar, me gustaria saber si el Grandpa va a siguier con estas inversiones. Siguen con el progresso.
