Guys, propaganda is as old as civilization, it has both good and bad intentions.  Most of it is marketing and morale. Not everything is a evil diabolical conspiracy. The information here is real, but the perspective is narrow-minded.

isn't the problem more with corporations and the like using PR to make larger profits? governments can't be so seflish.. businesses have a 'shareholder responsibility' to be selfish - in the days before advert regulation, businesses used to claim all kinds of shit with their products to make a quick buck.. i'm of the opinion that society is always ultimately better off knowing the truth.

Morale manifests itself in all sorts of ways. Football teams, businesses, military units, any situation where it is important to have group cohesion. Regardless of how we feel about morale or esprit de corps, it has and will continue to be a major part of human organization, and human success. =)

You hear the word 'morale' when an authority figure is nearby, and rarely, if ever, otherwise. People doing what they want to do don't need to be convinced.

HA! Very true.  It's less about propaganda being good or bad, it's simply a normal mechanism of interaction. Humans want to be led, and form group-identity and loyalty. The ability to form group cohesiveness is a powerful survival skill. =/
