Save the life of Mikalai Autukhovich by distributing this video message. Please do not keep silent ...

Mikalai Autukhovich, prisoner in Belarus since February 8, 2009 - went on hunger strike on April 16, 2009. With his protest he claims, that his criminal case should be sent to court as soon as possible.

50 days later nothing happend - and after he has lost nearly 30 kilos - it looks like the Belarusian authorities as well as the European Union are going to silence Mikalai Autukhovich to death. This would be already the second case with fatal consequences in Belarus, where the European Union failed to defend human rights in Belarus in a proper and efficient way.

Why are the authorities of the European Union keeping silent about grave violations of human rights in Belarus? Why did PACE Rapporteur Andrea Rigoni not include the case of Yana Palyakova in his PACE report on May 26, 2009? Why did Mr. Rigoni not report a single word about the hunger strike of Mikalai Autukhovich?

Why did neither Benita Ferrero-Waldner nor Javier Solana - which bear responsibility for the foreign policy towards Belarus - react in a human and correct way to these cases? Why are they silent?

Mikalai Autukhovich could die within next week. This video message is an evidence, that all the facts were known for simple EU citizens, before the worst possible case happend. There will be excuse for Javier Solana and Benita Ferrero-Waldner - and those - which are involved in keeping silent the truth about Belarusian regime victims.

  • thank you for your kind response ... I'd like to agree with you: personal contacts with people in/from Belarus are the key to the country ... I am convinced, situation in Belarus won't remain forever like that ... so - until then - don't remain silent !

  • I don't know what to say...it just makes me sit and think for a long time...quietly.

I tell people I meet about Belarus and the situation there, and some people are shocked...but most of them are dulled by the constant bombardment of bad news from all over the world. To be honest I knew almost nothing about Belarus before I met a Belarusian exiled journalist. And her stories and commitment made me interested. So...it is easier ( and normal ) to care when you know someone...
