Wear a sunglass shade over your right eye only and keep both eyes open. The image will appear in 3D because it is in continuous horizontal motion, and somehow that makes it work (I don't know - go read Wikipedia if you want an explanation.) This has been called the Pulfrich Effect or Pulfrich Illusion or any number of other things.

Carl Pulfrich, the man who discovered this phenomena, had only one eye - which means he couldn't see it himself!

All that you see was made in one day, May 1 2009, using the open-source 3-D program Blender. (okay Robbie, stop gloating - there are a bunch of blender-heads out there saying "one day, man, I could do that in an hour, and give it a texture and a background better than the default")

This video takes you through a full 360 degree view. Enjoy!

PS - please leave me a comment and let me know: is this video jittery, or is it just my dial-up connection?

  • Actually, no. I have a Dell Studio 1737 running Windows Vista. I have wondered if it is because I have an integrated graphics card instead of a dedicated one. I am still trying to find a solution so all of my videos won't be choppy like this one.

  • The video is just a but choppy which takes away from the Pulfrich effect, it has to be a SMOOTH continuous motion for it to work best.

  • Yeah, that is what I thought. I need to figure out a better codec or something.

  • I think this video is jittery for some reason. Let me know how it works for you! (I have dial-up.) The Pulfrich effect is amazingly versatile and will still work even with a few jitters, just I would like the vid to play smoother, like the original.

  • @dvds4ever It doesn't matter what machine he used to make the video, it could be rendered on the slowest or the fastest PC's ever and you would get the same result. Most likely it's because of the codec he chose.

  • I use it over my RIGHT eye. I watched a NON-3D Marvel movie in 3D!!!!!!!!!!! HEYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!

  • lens should go over LEFT eye, otherwise it doesn't really work

  • @robbielosee get a new ram card

  • @robbielosee Vista might be part of the problem, Vista is a memory whore, and will eat up all your ram. Just an idea, could be wrong.

  • Not great

  • the video did not seem to work very well, can you try to speed it up a little? I think that it will help a lot
