Gordon Downie of The Tragically Hip, met Jim Ellison while on tour. He later wrote a song in tribute of him after his apparent death. The song is called "Escape Is At Hand For The Travellin' Man. Look it up, and listen to the song, it's great.

doctors saved my life just in time three year ago (2007) , just found out that I have only have about seven more years to live . this will be one of the songs that i will have my children play at my funerel. love thes song.

Somehow i got a hold of a Material Issue promo pack in the early 90's, included the cassette IPO, interview, & picture. I was more of a rocker in the 80's but this was a nice "intro to the 90's" band, great hooks, melodies, and harmonies!

met jim and the band in 93 when they came and played our mall in bloomington. i waited forever to be able to meet them and especially jim. i took his pic and told him straight to his face that i appreciated the music and the songs that he wrote and that they spoke to me. that was 17yrs ago and i just learned about his death today. saddened. but glad i was able to share with him how i felt about his music.
