A music video about the yellow fever in Philadelphia in 1793 that Picklebob12, NinjaCupStudios and I made as a school project. We wrote the lyrics and the music and made the video. The lyrics were the main part of the project, so if you can't understand what we're saying here they are:

The end of the summer of '73
Philly was struck with a deadly disease.
The bugs came in from Africa with the refugees.
The mosquitoes flew around and did whatever they pleased,
biting, thriving in the mid-September heat.
The entire city was brought to its knees.

At first all they had was Dr. Benjamin Rush,
he was the best doctor around and he knew as much,
so stubborn and conceited it was dangerous.
His treatments were bad, they could even hurt,
bloodletting was one that did not work.
A treatment that was kind of foul,
was the injection of bark into the bowels.

Besides medicine he was a psychiatrist.
He had some theories you might call biased.
He developed the idea of addiction.
He realized the way you act when you're drunk was not a decision.

He said abstinence is the only cure
and the only way to be more pure.
One thing that you might call wack
was he thought that being black was a disease.
Come on, man we need someone more like Dr. Deveze.

But then Dr. Deveze came to Philadelphia
with a band of refugees from Santa Domingo
and because he was French, and new to the city
he wasn't treated with respect as he should have been, oh.

But slowly and surely, he got a good reputation,
most notably for curing victims with medication.
He said disease should run its course through the system,
but we can give them laxatives to make it faster.

He was strongly against all bloodletting
after he saw Rush's patients sweating
on the stretchers and he swore
that he would find a better cure.

But he and Rush -- they disagreed
about what worked to cure the ill,
so Deveze stopped doing private visits and went
to work at the hospital known as Bush Hill.

In Philly there was a hospital named Bush Hill.
Benjamin Rush was the doctor, his method could kill.
The hospital was so horrid, it was real bad
The words "Bush Hill" would not make a person glad.
When they thought all was lost Stephen Girard arrived.
With his ideas and Dr. Deveze even some patients survived.

When the winter came
all the mosquitoes passed away,
and when the first snow fell
Philly was released from its hell.
There were parties in the streets
as people threw out all their sheets
and the smell of celebration filled the air. (filled the air, filled the air)
