Fort Myers Beach

It's hard to imagine Fort Myers Beach as a remote stretch of green edged with white, soft sand and accessible only by boat. However, that's just what it was until the first "Little Bridge" was constructed to bring tourists and locals alike to the seven-mile Estero Island through Bunche Beach on the mainland. By the late 1920s, a new bridge (actually a second-hand one from the East coast of Florida) was installed near the current San Carlos Bridge.

Little by little, Estero Island's attractive features, including miles and miles of white, sandy beaches, have captured the imaginations of visitors from near and far. This beach community draws thousands of visitors from Germany, France and the United Kingdom each year.

Boating, sailing, fishing and spectacular Lovers Key State Park make this island a real recreational playground. Add to that a great number of family-friendly resorts, quaint cottages, Old Florida charm, restaurants serving fresh seafood from the Gulf of Mexico and an annual Shrimp Festival, and it's a beach vacation paradise.

  • i got to fort myers every year for spring break ( easter) I LOVE FLORIDA its awesome and escepially fort myers

  • @Codawinx It will be just me coming down. A studio apartment will do. I don't need to be right on the beach. I would like to be as close to work as possible. I don't even really know what part of Fort Myers I will be working yet. I have not been down there before. I have been to Clearwater though. Thanks for the response.

  • @cotybarker great if you dont mind a drve from 15-30 min. to work. there's a lot going on there so yeah, if you can afford to, its fabulous to live there. from december to april we have people on vacation and the traffic is really long. other than that its perfect. there are two bridges to the mainland and there are grocery stores, restaurants, etc. most of the buisnesses are local. the island is 7 miles long and 3 miles deep at thickest so can walk across the street to the beach anywhere.

  • @Codawinx I have been offered employment in Fort Myers and I am considering relocating there from North Carolina. Any advice?

  • ok

  • i live here...ahhh

  • LOL hooters ! I miss jogging that whole beach. The clean air, blue water, and sun. I live in Los Angeles and although its beautiful here, nothing compares to that real tropical feel Florida has.

  • Yeaah I live in fort myers..♥
