The Arabs occupied the territory ever since the Arabic conquest in 637 C.E. The name "Philistia" [further bastardized into "Palaistina"], was invented by the Romans in the year 135 C.E . Before it was known as Judea, the southern kingdom of ancient Israel. There never was a Palestinian state, just unorganized Arab tribes in the area. They could have lived peacefully in modern Israel (and Jordan) if they had wanted to. They chose war instead, by that causing their own and other's misery..
