This is my final set-up of the LPC-815 DVD burner laser diode from LG 20x DVD Burner drive. It's set in an AixiZ housing with a AR coated glass focusing lens. The AixiZ housing, batteries and Power Supply Driver are then housed in a generic plastic project box. This diode is being driven at 386mA.

  • must i use a driver, or something easier would work just fine?

can i also use the whole dvd drive head with its optics instead of using AiXiz things?

  • @app0the Yes you need a driver as laser diodes are very very sensitive. Yes you'll need the AixiZ module else you wouldn't be able to focus the laser.

  • @happyguy82 thanks. gotta go buy goggles too :P

'cause there is never enough safety

  • @app0the yeah if you can afford a pair of goggles and intend to take this up as a hobby, it'll be a good investment.

  • are you from singapore?

  • You could power your laser using 3x or more 9v batteries in paralel insted of using thouse expensive ones. Try to put a contact heat sink to prevent overheat.

  • Use a tripod. It will make it easier to demonstrate and you wont shake :)

  • @FlawlessVizionz08 I'm not sure how much the dvd burner costs that you bought but it's surely more then the 10 dollar diode which can easily be bought online.
