@Vorpalbite Looking for privacy on the AT is like looking for water in the desert. If you want solitude hike the CDT. The AT is a social trail, whether you want it to be or not. The people are the best part of the trail for me.

That's why I hike off the trail. If I want company, I head for the AT.
Interesting people always, even the ones with OFS (old farts syndrome) give you something funny to talk about (when they aren't around, lol).

For me - the very worst part of the AT are the people. They all think they have a right to be in your face and your buisness. Never occured to people I was there to be ALONE. You will not get privacy on the AT.
