awesome performance. beautiful complimentary vocals by carla olson, too. after listening to rock music for over 40 years, I only recently found gene clark and what a discovery it was!
if you enjoy the likes of gram parsons and flying burrito brothers, I daresay gene clark is even a notch beyond gram.
for starters, I would suggest the "fabulous expedition", "no other" and "white light" albums...and that`s just for starters! songs like "train leaves here this morning" were made for eternity.
Gene is in Heaven, looking down at all of us.......he is singing to the angels. this man was ahead of his TIME, even in 1965 with the Byrds............they were lucky to have Gene than...........
Yeah. I'm ashamed to admit it but it's the first time I've heard Gene since he quit the Byrds 40 plus years ago. This sounds exactly what I had been looking for at the time. Too bad I didn't hear it then & run out & buy it. I'll try harder to catch up. I'm late but...I miss you Gene. The guy will go down along with Colin Bluntstone as the most underrated lead singers in history,
No Other is absolutely stunning on first listen, but I agree there is something about that is a bit over produced after multiple listenings. Luckily with the extended remaster you can remix it, taking some of the less over produced and make your own mellower mix onto a CDr. In any case Gene Clark was a genius, take it song by song. Clark was a great American painter of words and song.
Man!! What an AWEsome tune & performance..... what album is this on? Seeing this makes me realize that the answer to Gene's downward slide & lack of solo success might have been remedied by him going to Nashville and having somebody really good produce him in that setting. He was such a natural as a country singer.I think the country audiences would have given him the support he so sorely lacked in the pop/folk world.
Yeah, "No other" is great, though after some listenings my opinion is that some songs are great, some songs are just a fill out, I really cant see this as a total concept album. He had something coming but the recording of the album was not as it had could been.
One of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time, no question. Carla Olson is brilliant on the album so rebellious a lover, check out "every angel in heaven"
