This is great. I've only just looked at it so I have no idea how it works - but I'm so glad people are trying out different ways of getting text into a device.
This is the way that the openmoko platform could really shine compared to other systems - innovation and new ideas, as implemented by an enthusiastic community.

It is not supposed to be used with an input device like a mouse but on a touchscreen directly. This is why it is slow.
