It's a mixed bag. The best episode is the Archbishop, which is a satire of the medieval church. The Queen of Spain's Beard ("So what you're telling me Percy, is that something you have never seen, is slightly less blue, than something else you have never seen") is good entertainment, although the joke is mainly on Miriam Margolyes for being fat and dowdy- poor woman. The worst one is the "Witchfinder", which relies far too much on "magical realism" to drive its plot forward.

iv never seen season 1 before. when is it on tv? they only show seasons 2 and 3 and blackadder does forth.

Season one is probably the best from the four. I bought the DVD from BBC.
