It's 11.30pm on a Wednesday night in Rockworld, Manchester, and after endless re-runs of the drum and bass intro tape The Fall finally open up with this as yet unreleased track (and only played live one other time - the night before). And what a thumping bass line.
MES appears four minutes into this opener, with the on stage tension all too visible. There's a new guitarist and second keyboard player on stage with the mighty Steve Hanley holding things together.
Simon was to leave shortly after this gig, replaced by Karl Burns for his final few months before the New York implosion.
Personnel:
Mark E Smith - Vocals
Steve Hanley - Bass
Simon Wolstencroft - Drums
Tommy Crooks - Guitar
Julia Nagle - Keyboards/Guitar
Simon Spencer - Keyboards/FX
It was a memorable night with a very pissed but very loyal crowd. I got the tape of the gig a few days later, and a mere 13 years on have managed to share this out. Enjoy!

@somehopes26
Yeah - Jilly's Rockworld. Now sadly shut down, Used to be at the bottom of Oxford Road opposite Temple of Convenience.
Levitate reissue has been a problem given Artful (the label it was originally released on) is no more. Nothing is straightforward in the Fall world.
