Spring of 2009, Sahrawis protested against the Norwegian seismic surveys offshore occupied Western Sahara. There were demonstrations both in universities in Morocco, and in Assa, south Morocco.
The Norwegian-Dutch seismic surveys company Fugro-Geoteam has carried out surveys offshore the occupied Western Sahara in violation of international law. The unethical work is done on behalf of US oil company Kosmos Energy, and the Moroccan authorities.
Morocco is exploring for oil in the territory that it occupied in 1975. The industry is not according to the benefit or interest of the indigenous Sahrawi people.
