Original Song by James Humphries

"So I'm Gone"

The beltline is busted and our buzzbox is broke,
There's nothing to eat, and there's nothing to do,
And everyone's laughing at Jerry's new joke.
But I'll keep on cryin', if you want me to.
There's a tree by my window, with branches that bend
There's a whole group of gamblers that try and pretend, that they won
And all of my brothers betrayed me again, so I'm gone.

Our newspaper bleeds, and we froze all the bulbs.
My suitcase is empty, and I drank all the gin,
The water pipes howl like a hurt pack of wolves.
And you're always knocking, but you never come in.
Well the garbage men scrape all their shoes on my street,
And the ambulance cries and the pigeons repeat every song
But I can admit to one lousy defeat, so I'm gone.

Gone, like the moon in the morning.
Gone, like yesterdays snow.
Cant even say where I'm goin, or how long I'll stay.
But I'm leavin' today and I aint comin' back anymore.

Farewell to my crosswalk and the cornerstore lights,
Farewell to the benches with minutes of rest,
Farewell to the daydreamin' dark lonely nights,
While stumblin' down the sideroads that I travelled best.
To the ghost in my closet, to the rust on my blade,
To the safety deposit that never got paid for so long
Well there's too many problems with this here parade, so I'm gone.

Gone, like the moon in the morning.
Gone, like yesterdays snow.
Cant even say where I'm goin, or how long I'll stay.
But I'm leavin' today and I aint comin' back anymore.
I'm leavin' today and I aint comin' back anymore

  • Apparently sounding like Dylan requires only a harminca and acoustic guitar... and is also a bad thing? Hell, if someone told me I sounded like Dylan I'd be like, hey thanks a lot. Thanks for making great music. Even Dylan had crtics.

  • This is one great song, my friend, love the song and your performance.

  • good song

  • Love you James...

  • Good job,young Bob!

  • Excellent work. Loved your song. Lyrics are wonderful and creative. So good to hear fresh original lyrics. Keep up the good work.

    best regards,

  • And yes, I forgot to give the main reply.

Where there is monotony, there is saturation- not of art, but of talent. This has to be avoided, to develop the talent further. Only running waters are said to be "fresh", you know what still waters are called.

Nevertheless, this particular boy is at too high a place in this field. At least one song (Anything That Fits Me Like A Glove) of his, is almost a masterpiece, especially the writing.

  • Because there is always a path beyond what you think was a destination, and that path is always longer than you can run. And there are destinations approaching every now and then, so it's always nice for us to go as far as possible, before we finally settle down for a destination.

No wonder you appreciate this field so well- you are a writer-musician yourself. This world needs to be overcrowded with people like you.

  • Do you have any idea how hard it is to write a good song? Why don't you try?
