Manchester was born in the Bronx area of New York city to a musical family of Jewish descent. Her father was a bassoonist for the New York Metropolitan Opera. Manchester appeared on the Manhattan club scene, where she was discovered by Bette Midler and Barry Manilow, who took her on as a backup singer in 1971.

Though she would so on to have greater hits, this is an early success, and one of her most memorable; leading off my list of fifty. Nicely expressive of the humanity of in her songs. Thank you for the montage. Remember, if God's eye is on the sparrow, how much more ourselves.

I was a DJ on the radio when this was a hit. Still as fresh today as it was then. The ultimate "let's make up" tune!
