The fat fast is still working but I had to add some casein protein last night (which kept me the same weight as the day before!). Okay, I've had a change in plans because now I am going to add more protein and fiber for 2 days, but not go over 600 calories! Then I am going to try fat fast again for 5 days.

  • I had some very important questions to ask you... I have been viewing your extremely motivational videos and am extreemley amazed at your results!! The questions I have for you are: (1) How do I start calorie shifting? (2) How do I get in to ketosis? and (3) How much TOTAL pounds have you LOST and most important how long has this taken you since you started your journey? Thanks for your help!

  • 1) I just "jumped into it" and started alternating my calories per day 2) check out Atkins fat fast...that is what I did! 3) started at nearly 300, now I am 169 and I started June 26, 2008!

  • Oh, and you are very welcome and let me know if you have any more questions!

  • ...did you say "..ketosis...is like...no proteins" ???

I hope not......cause it is the apposite!!! you need to fill up on proteins (like A LOT!) and supplement with GOOD fat (fish oil, olive oil, flax, chia...) keeping your carbs closest to none as possible....

Good luck, as it seems to be working...for now. Take care and don't stop documenting yourself on nutrition.

  • I normally do eat some protein, but during the Atkin's fat fast there is very little protein involved. I know that protein is vital to my health, but in fat fast...the more fat you eat, the more fat you lose due to an increased ketone production from the high amount of fat eaten in the diet. It forces your body into a state called lipolysis which is where you burn up stored body fat.

  • There is very little protein involved because your body stores glucose in your liver (as glycogen) and can also convert protein to glucose if necessary. Glucose can be an annoyance to anyone trying to lose weight during the fat fast because it can hinder the rapid production of ketones. If protein is eaten there can still be ketones produced, however, not at the same rapid rate as during the fat fast diet.
