Brought to you by WinWinCreative, Joy is an audio and light sculpture consisting of 20 handcrafted acrylic swings. Each swing has a battery, digital board, 36 LEDs, accelerometer, and internal WiFi radio.
By using ArtNet over OSC as the transport protocol we can control the lighting on each individual swing, and each swing in return transmits X-Y-Z acceleration data as OSC back to a controlling computer. The OSC data is interpreted by a custom Max/MSP patch to create a 6-channel sound field based on the height and speed of each group of 4 swings. Sounds range from very simple height-controlled sine waves to scratch samplers which are cued and triggered by the swinging motion.
The lighting around and inside the truss structure are RGB LED Par64 fixtures kindly provided by Elemental LED (www.elementalled.com), and are being controlled wirelessly in the same way as the swings using a custom WiFi OSC-DMX controller designed for this project.
Joy is presented by Jason and Danielle Mika, Jonny (5) Sylvan, and Joe Martin with the immense help of our awesome crew.
