Nobody Plays Hymn Tunes like a Salvation Army Band, so some would have us believe. Here's a fine example of a favourite Hymn Tune Repton, played by the Army's Premier Band. The tune Repton is associated with the words 'Dear Lord & Father of Mankind'.
If anyone knows the name of the second tune, I would be pleased if you would pass it on.

  • The second hymn tune is St. Luke # 46. Concert Pitch of Gb Major, our band eventually got to this since we play a different two every rehearsal.

  • Well done! This is great News.Thank you for bringing our search to a satisfactory conclusion. You would be surprised how many have tried and failed.

  • Be sure to see the lastest ISB videos on this channel. Some beautiful melodies such as from that 'Sacred Hill', plus good devotional congregational singing accompanied by the Satff Band.

  • Hello, here is David from Argentina. If I can help I will say that the tune Repton is number 123 in the New Tune Book. I am afraid it is not in the old Band Tune Book.

I love to start band rehersal with this lovely tune, and then after we have practised play again to end rehearsal.

    God Bles you all.

    Greetings from Argentina.

  • Hi David, Good to hear from you. Thank you for your greetings.I think most people love the Tune Repton along with the lovely words associated we associate with the Song/Hymn. I am still trying to find the name of the second tune the band plsys. I hope to have this question resolvbed very soon. Greetings and every blessing to you all in Argentina. Geoff

  • Ok;you've caught me out on that one...

I'd be able to tell you if we had a Solo/1st Cornet Book; but no, instruments are locked away at our hall ready for tomorrow...

I'll try and find out for you though; the CO army corps will probably know it!

  • I hope you succeed dibz. I must tell you lots of people have tried, without success. I am beginning to think this particulat tune is not in the Band Tune book, having checked thoroughly the metrcal index. It may have been played by the ISB as a one off. Do let us know what you come up with.

  • Songs of Praise would be far more enjoyable if the Salvation Army led them?

  • Wonderful music. Blessed of God. Thank you for uploading it.

  • It's me, again. This is to all denominations: There is another hymn in the ELW set to REPTON. It is How Clear Is Our Vocation, Lord, written by Fred Pratt Green, 1903-2000. It is #580. If Mark 8:27-9:1 is your Scripture for the day, this is a good hymn to compliment it.

  • so lovely

  • I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (March 8), we sang as our Hymn of the Day, He Comes to Us as One Unknown. It is #737 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship and set to REPTON. The lyrics were written by Timothy Dudley-Smith. Just tought I'd share.

  • what a band isb is

  • Wow...I can't believe I have to say that, but...I don't recognize that second tune. That's a noodle scratcher there - I'm going to have to comb through both tune books until I find out.
