Why is Barney pink? He's supposed to be purple! First he was a very dark purple, then a little lighter and now he's pink!

When I was little I always wanted the Barney and the Backyard Gang doll because I thought Barney would come alive and play with me! My mother would tell me everyday that Barney isn't real, and I would cry whenever she told me that!
