About the with great power thing: it's been around LONGER than star wars has. It has been used and used and used and used. If a spider-man story wants to deliver the same message in different words (which it blatantly does) then fine. It's totally fine.

Well I know, that's what I said. Gwen is basically the MJ of the Rami films. And yes, she's popular. She was popular when they wrote the original comic where she died, too. Emma Stone has said she'd like to be able to tell that story in the series, and other people involved with the movies have said similar things. It's not set in stone, but since they killed Captain Stacy and had him say that Gwen would eventually get hurt if Peter kept being with her... I'm thinking they're sowing seeds

Of course it's used a lot, it is for Spider-Man what "May the Force be with you" for Star Wars! Yeah. Just like in Raimi's film. In Raimi's film they couldn't kill her off because in the first movie they decided not to have her and have the iconic sadistic choice moment with MJ instead.

As for the logic, she's also fairly popular AFAIK.

Considering the series seems to be leading up to Green Goblin in the third movie, I'd say this is the perfect series to kill gwen in.

Ben said it in TASM in different words, precisely because that phrase is said too much. And what I mean is that Pete didn't get the message entirely AFTER ben died in the comics. They most certainly could kill her off. In Rami's she was a totally different character and not suited to be killed in the same way. The logic that she's more interesting than Peter is not something that the people making the movie are going to be using. That's your view, not theirs.

Yeah, Pete not getting Ben's message right away is true to the comics... in Raimi's film: Pete doesn't get the message and misuses his powers, Uncle Ben gets killed, Pete realizes the error of his ways. In TASM the power and responsibility thing wasn't said at all. They couldn't kill her off in neither TASM nor Raimi's Spider-Man. She might get killed in TASM 2, but I doubt it, since she's more likable than Pete himself.
