Real Basic MIDI input in Logic Pro 9 Piano Roll View

Hi all this is an educational channel for students at Halesowen College (UK). The channel will gradually fill up with tutorial videos for mainly Logic Pro and some other pro audio software. Please make requests for tutorial videos...but priority will be given to my students. Please also feel free to use the videos for your own purpose, I would would be grateful if I am accredited.

I have also taken information or ideas from other Logic Pro tutorials and where I have done so I have accredited this to the relevant user, this is just simply a channel to help the up and coming producers of today with everything in one place!

  • I am having trouble with this.. If im slightly off beat I cant drag the notes right on the line. it either goes to far or not enough help!

  • @spazzowenz Okay you problem couple be due to a couple of different things.1) In the transport menu at the bottom where all the times/beats/bars/temp etc are there will be one the say either 1/4 1/8 1/16 etc (snap values) make sure you have the right snap values. 2) Try using quantization to auto correct your playing. 3) Click and hold the MIDI note then hold down CTRL to give you finer movement. 4) Press 'E' to use the event list to correct your note position. = hope this helps =

  • @101MTL thanks, I'll try that :D

  • @spazzowenz No worries bro, let me know how you get on.

  • hi,. I am new to logic pro. I tried to set up midi to the laptop. But the sound from the keyboard doesn't work in logic pro. Can you help me setup? Thanks!

  • @bpbrondo First of, if it is a MIDI keyboard then it wont make a sound...MIDI is simply a stream of Code that triggers the software like Logic Pro. So simply pluging a MIDI controller/keyboard in will do nothing until your create a software instrument, put an instrument on the channel and then presto...sound! :) its a very hard thing to learn from scratch without actual tuition or lessons.

  • @pp133sam Load a ultrabeat on a software instrument, create some blank MIDI in the arrange page on that channel and then double click on it. THis should bring up the piano roll for that instrument, simples.

  • how do i get single sounds from ultrabeat into piano roll so i can map out different notes?

  • @101MTL thanks alot for the response, thats exactly what i needed to know. My short time on cubase had me confused about changing this setting. nice one :)
