Due to mandated testing, the core academic subjects of art, dance, music, and drama are being cut so that students can focus on one or two tested subjects. Students are not able to study the arts in our public schools and I'm afraid we are going to lose our innovative thinkers in this country! Help us! We need the creative class and the training in our public schools to keep the arts and culture of the U.S. alive.

  • I have to disagree with the post below - I believe in a quality and complete education and ALL subjects are important and valid to teach. As an arts educator, I never teach in isolation and truly use knowledge in multiple subjects to see applications and integration points beyond the isolated art. To pit subjects against one another and to say that another is not needed or is unnecessary would be 'fighting,' if you will, at the same level as those who choose not to support arts education.

  • Why cut music, why not cut algebra instead?

    I am a music teacher:

    1. I don't use algebra-for anything.

    2. I don't use my knowledge of Shakespeare, Elliot or Dickens

    3. I only use basic arithmetic when averaging grades and basic grammar and composition when writing parent letters.

I4.I don't use my science knowledge

    5. I rarely use my history knowledge.

    6. I USE MY MUSIC KNOWLEDGE EVERY DAY!

  • Unfortunately in Sweden the art education is not so very popular ether.

It's a pity because I think that young people who are studying art quite often can be more empathic.

    Thanks for the video!

  • yeah go miss fennell

    preach it and teach it

    great message

    you sound so important

you should do this thing more often

  • I couldn't agree more...a mixture of academics and arts is extremely important and necessary for a well-rounded education.
