It's actually 11.6 miles to every place along the river in Titusville, Space View Park included. Almost identical to Haulover.
And just because THIS launch was louder up there than in Titusville, that is not always true! Wind strength and direction are critical.
Finally, taking in a shuttle launch with half a million folks (including many awed foreign visitors) can be more memorable and fun than with a handful of befuddled manatees!! :]

Pad A is over 10 miles from Space View Park, next time go out to Merritt Island's Haulover Canal... its closer & MUCH louder because the shuttle is coming overhead, no to mention there isn't half a million other people in your face
