My relative motion video project for 11th grade physics.
These were the questions asked with the video:
1. What is the birds' position relative to the camera? To the Sun?
2. When I throw and catch the ball as I ride, what is it's motion relative to the bike? To my hand?
3. When I drop the ball, what is it's motion relative to me? Does it change? If you where to show this on an XT graph, with the starting point of the bike as 0 Distance and Time, with the ball and me having separate data lines on the graph, how might you do it?
4. When Kyle throws the ball, is the ball moving with him? Is it the same as me on my bike? What about relative to Kyle's hand? Relative to the swinging movement? Relative to the ground (Earth)?
5. Image an XT graph with the yellow handle as 0 X, and my feet as the moving object, how might that motion compare (Remember it is relative to the yellow handle, which itself is moving)?
6. How can you explain my diagonal movement when kyle pushes me? How might my angle of motion after the push be modified?
7. In conclusion, how could you describe the squirrel's motion? What would it be relative to? Would you use an XT Graph, and motion map, or an equation? If I was to say "he is getting closer to the tree", what am I really saying? What would that motion be relative to in that instance?
