Motorola sb6120. Comcast Blast tier, 16/2. Testing from Atlanta. Bonding 4 channels.

DOCSIS 3 upgrades were done here in my area last summer and Comcast was working on plant sweeps all around here not to long ago.

  • The retarded people at comcast told me that I needed DOCSIS 3.0 for Blast and have no idea what theyre talking about. I'm using a surfboard 5101 and getting 25/4 consistent.

  • @HaPPyPwNy They are telling you that due to the fact that a doc3 compatible modem, like the 6120 will support channel bonding and Blast is the 1st tier in the network where they will be utilizing that. I believe at some point in time that may be the actuall "requirement" in order for that tier to be supported at any address, so it is a possibility they may require current customers to upgrade to DOC 3 modem or risk having their lower grade modem de-activated, but don'e quote me on that.

  • I think all areas are different though, because now I'm being told that other people have blast on DIGITAL lines and my lines are definately old-school. I know my lines have filters so I'm almost certain that they aren't digital. That being said, my previous comment stands to be worthless.

  • hey Bud im planning on buying this modem . Im not the greatist in computers but i have comcast isp at the moment with an old motorola surfboard . If i do buy this do i just exchange the modem and im done or am i going to have to install programs of any kind or call comcast for assistant in hook up ? Thanks

  • The sb6120 is compatible w/ DOC 2 networks, but is designed for DOC 3. DOC 2 modems do not have channel bonding capabilities, but can usually handle up to 30M dl tiers. Some claim that while they still may be on DOC 2, they see an improvement of speed when swapping out to the 6120. I'm on Blast tier here and saw no difference in powerboost speeds from the 5101 I was using before, I am consistent at 24-25M dl & 2-3 UL.
