WORKS BRILLIANTLY! Safe for Pets. No poisons. No harmful chemicalsl.
This device is sold by various companies, and in various shapes and forms - but essentially, it is a plastic bowl with an umbrella 'lid' to keep the rain off. It would be too hard to actually MAKE something similar yourself.
However, why bother trying to make them when you can buy them off the internet as cheap as 6 for £6, although some companies will try to rip you off by selling them for up to £10 each. Check ebay: Type something like "snail traps" or similar.
All you need to do is put in a teaspoonful of salt and half-fill with beer. (A friend of ours in Sweden wrote to tell us he considered this to be "Beer Abuse.")
We've been using devices like this in our gardens for a couple of years, and they definitely work. Quite honestly, we rarely find a plant with a bite taken out of the leaves nowadays, and after many previous years of losing many expensive plants to slugs and snails, we are very happy with what we've discovered here.
Naturally, you never quite get rid of slugs and snails altogether, but this is definitely the best thing we've ever found, and really does work well.
@Dalrrr I agree.
