And since 2012 is the 50th anniversary of that inaugural Metropolitans season (and obviously, the 50th of the franchise), I have a good idea for a throwback/alternate jersey they could wear at The Citi in 2012... Since they apparently will not be wearing much black at home in 2012 (and that's a shame, too. Because the black-on-royal mix was a good look for them at home as an alternate), they should bring that original home jersey back. No number on the front, no name on the back. Yay?

It's "AMAZIN'" how history repeats itself, huh? The current-day Metropolitans (that is the team's real name) are those early-60's Metropolitans again. Damn...Madoff fucked those cats up, man. And they STILL owe money! That's some tough shit. It's hard for me to believe I rooted for that franchise just 23-24 years ago. They (the players, exces, owners, everybody in royal & orange) were on their way to greatness by that time. I really don't know where it went wrong for 'em. But they are bad now.

The Polo Grounds was a hitters paradise only if you were a pull hitter. Because of the outlandish outfield dimensions, it was generally a very fair park overall, not really favoring hitters or pitchers...

The Polo Grounds was only a hitters paradise in 1962 when Met pitchers were on the mound. The amazing thing about this video is that I was at this game. I remember my grandfather, an old Cardinal fan, bemoaning the fact that Vinegar Bend Mizell was at the end of the line. This game was played on June 20, 1962.

"Been in this game one-hundred years, but I see new ways to lose 'em I never knew existed before."

Awesome video. Thumbs up. I was rooting for Ashburn to get out of that pickle.

this video makes it seem that they were a decent club (other than the reerence to the # games lost. Would love to see footage of their foibles
