  • Could anyone please tell me where does the background noise come from?

  • @guohouzuo

The background noise is the vibrating mechanism inside the standby altimeter instrument. (altimeter vibrator). This to ensure a more accurate readout of this instrument. It makes the needle go to the most "relaxed" position . Same effect as if you tap your finger to the glass to make sute the needle is not stucked.Instead they made this "hammer" do it for you. Very often pilots pull the CB of this vibrator to get rid of the noise, but they forget to push it in after landing.

  • silly question you might think, but the read out within those N1 and N2 dials.. are they digital or spinning mechanical dials?

  • Those lighting numbers are digitals. The pointer is mechanical.

It looks like spinning dials but its all digital lights.

  • N1 is the rotation of the fan in front of the engine, the one you can see when you look straight at the front of the engine. It is connected to a shaft that runs through the engine and is turned by a turbine at the aft of the engine.

N2 is the rotation speed of the central core. The turbine immediately aft of the burner can receives the highest velocity airflow and turns a turbine that is hidden behind the N1 fan where we can't see it.

  • great video reminds me of when I use to fly the old 737's with Qantas, now on the 747-400's the rest is history

  • In order to shut down you just cut off the fuel by using the cut off switches on the pedestal or you must do something else before?

  • yep, this is similar to my car

  • @737maint ok thanks for your answer :) that's quite interesting
