The Met Office - A Weather Eye on Climate Change Business Opportunities

This presentation will look at key business opportunities that prevail from climate change. These opportunities cover a number of business areas from utilities, finance and insurance, health and transportation. The Met Office as the UK's National Weather Service together with the Met Office Hadley Centre for Climate Change is ideally placed to provide climate related services to a range of customers from government departments, public sector agencies through to commercial organisations both in the UK and Internationally.
A key underpinning competence is the use of high resolution earth system models with methodologies for providing information at regional and local scales, and information and advice on the changes, incidence and characteristics of climate extremes and hazardous weather.
As well as providing services relevant to adaptation issues, the Met Office provides advice to inform mitigation policies and assessments of dangerous climate change, thus providing customers and stakeholders with a comprehensive set of tools to best manage the risks and opportunities presented to them by climate variability and climate change.
