Folks, I grew up with this record. I've listened to it since I was a small child. It's a well-worn copy of Danny Valentino's rockabilly number "Stampede." This old 45rpm belonged to my late father, who was a World War II veteran. He grew up with the big bands of the 1930's and 1940's; so I don't know, for the life of me, why he would have purchased this record just over fifty years ago. But anyway, this song has been a part of my life for many decades...and I just want to share this piece of personal nostalgia with the Youtube world. And, just so you will know, there's a SKIP three-quarters of the way into the record. For years, the record just kept repeating the grove there...not able to move forward with the song. But somehow, some years back, I managed to get it to where it would play through...but, yes, there's that skip. It's the part where Danny is supposed to sing "I got her back at three-o'-clock at home." (Or something to that effect.) You don't hear that lyric on this record. But the song meant so much to me, I just digitized it "as-is" for nostalgia purposes. I've listend to the song, with the skip, for years. It's just such a great song, it doesn't bother me. In the video montage, enjoy the mostly 1950's (and some 1960's) nostalgia, the majority of which is from my personal collection of old paper ephemera and memorabilia. (You'll love seeing the instructions for Cold War Civil Defense procedures!) Also, I couldn't find out much about this artist, other than the fact that this recording came out on MGM records in the autumn of 1959 (according to either Billboard or Variety magazine). Whatever happend to Danny Valentino and his instrumental group? (Anybody out there know?) The song definetly has got a good rockabilly beat to it (and some lyrics about "hot rods" as well). So if you are big fan of that genre (and it seems that a lot of people throughout the globe are), you won't go wrong taking a listen here. And if you like reading about North and South Carolina history, along with some of my personal musings on life, check out www.carolinahistoryproject.com when you get the time. And I just want to mention that, under Fair Use, I am only uploading this old song for educational and historical purposes. (I am an historian of sorts around here in my region of the world.) Thank you for stopping by, and check out some of my other videos when you can. I would love to hear from some of you rockabilly folks out there. Thank you!
