if we look at say the solo to valley of the kings or still of the night by Sykes we find him smoothly playing runs that where not really part of moores vocabulary, even though both solos hint at moores influence.i want to point out this is just an opinion.and debating it is like trying to debate that blue is a faster color than yellow .and i will also remind you that i have already state that i regard moore as the one of the best of generation and it would be hard to claim the same for sykes
@road2ruins i really want to try and avoid getting into a position where it might be construed that i am slagging Moore of ,so i will try top tread carefully.moore was very found of repeating notes at speed and then shifting the position .the end of the out in the fields solo is one of the few time i can think of of the top of my head where he played a run.and its a fucker to be sure.but live when he tried these sort of runs they where clearly not comfortable for him .
@MUDSHARK111 Well at least we're reading from the same hymn sheet now ;-) I would have to disagree though and say Gary was technically the best of those three. I think technique is more than just speed, although when he wanted Gary coud be as fast as Sykes. There wasn't one thing that Sykes ever played that Gary couldn't but I couldn't say the same the other way around.
@road2ruins if you where American you tended to borrow of van halen.and if British it tended to be Moore .vivian campbell and Sykes both very popular at one time and both very talented ,but there's plenty of Moore in both . Sykes was technically speaking better than both . however i do think taking every thing into account Moore had been consistently the best rock player until he jumped ship for blues.

@miniulrich1 I know that, read my post again! I was just pointing out tongue in check that a lot of the licks in the solo are very Gary Moore-ish.
