On 5-8-10 i met up with Tim and railfaned Rochelle & Mendota. Our first stop was Rochelle, to have breakfast and to see if we could get anything train related and did, then we got on the highway and went south to Mendota and met up with Dan.

  • Where does the word "foaming" come into play?

  • @JetMechMA Its a joke played on railfans, railroad crews call us foamers cause we foam at the mouth when we see a train.

  • I can tell those were the morning Amtraks because even when I've gotten on them in Mendota or returned they usually meet around Mendota but I didn't think they swapped trains I though one crew took it the whole way and later they'd go back to their home terminals on the evening trains and BNSF9250 that local doesn't run much from what I've seen all they do is sit there in the yard idling half the time.

  • @railfanstreator94 Yeah those are the morning amtraks, & its rare to see them swop crews here.

  • great catches

  • @VIA909 Thanks.

  • The Amtrak morning trains at Mendota (old CB&Q route) are:

Illinois Zephyr (headed to Chicago) and

Carl Sandberg (headed to Macomb and Quincy).

This is one of Amtrak's best routes (and on-time or ahead of schedule) -- Thank's to historic and preserved CB&Q triple track alignment from Chicago Union Station to Galesburg.

From Galesberg to Quincy .. plentiful sidings.

Tom Carper, former Macomb mayor, now works for Amtrak :-)

  • @JetMechMA Very funny. I was foaming watching this video too. ;)

  • Yeah I have rode them several times and to my recollection NEVER saw them swap crews before this movie and I had asked one of the Conductors and he said they didn't the crews ran them the whole way

  • @BNSF9250 I dont know this was my first time going there. Yes UP runs one stack a day and theres only a couple freights, Amtrak takes over the line in the day.
