My favorite version of this song. The most memorable of the lines in this song for me is. "The dog up & died, he up & died...after 20 years he still grieved" ...I can relate..it alway reminds me of my baby....after 25 years I still grieve... I remember when Nitty Gritty Dirt Band recorded this song..."Goddess" was still living, but I knew that when her time came....I would grieve forever for her....thanks for the video, & the memories of wonderful pet that worth every tear i've shed for her.

@snoop981 agreed. they are great musicians without any shadow of doubt; but the feeling is missing. the mood, setting, attitude, and environment are all wrong! a major, successful country band tends to ruin cover songs by stripping away the main reason it was written; the emotion and creativity.

1-21-2012. Sake's alive, sake's alive, look who's 65. Happy Birthday, Jim Ibbotson. I just want to let you know that I saw you all in May 1988 at the Hampton Coliseum in Virginia.
I love this song. By the way, at the end, he said to the audience "Domo". I wonder why he used Japanese. Did this concert take place in Japan?

@Gougouchan Yes, this "Country Gold" fest was held in Mt. Aso, Kumamoto in 1990.
