This video was made as backup for a presentation regarding the importance of recovering the music that was played during major events of the Colombian War of Independence, as well as those of Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru, that resulted in the eventual founding of those countries, as well as Bolivia and Panama. In Colombia most of the repertoire has been forgotten and when it is played it is often taken out of its proper context as music composed for the liberating armies and is remembered exclusively as ball-room music, which is a mistake as when it is played as a dance its character is lost and the events it was meant to evoque are not transmited.
