Humanities Center Director Steve Shankman interviews faculty, staff, and visiting lecturers about their research and interests for a 30 minute show that gives an inside look at the University of Oregon. This episode features Leo Bersani, celebrated literary theorist, prolific author, and Professor Emeritus of French at the University of California, Berkeley. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including a prestigious Guggenhein Fellowship. He is a member of the National Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the author of at least 15 books.

  • Bersani is a nuanced and rigorous thinker. Thank you for sharing this interview with Youtube.

    If I can make a point. Bersani's prescription for living the morally and aesthetically 'correct' life is unecessary and weak--utopic. I feel that human beings--desires and fantasies--are best regulated through policy because, fundamentally,human beings cannot be reconfigured structurally to love in the 'proper' way, stop fighting, etc.
