Dr. John LaNoue was raised in rural Tennessee and was brought to Texas by a scholarship to Baylor University where he graduated in 1980 with B.A. in religion. One week after graduation he married Deirdre Madison of Midland and they moved to the DFW area to begin seminary studies together. After one year in the seminary, Deirdre was diagnosed with cancer and this awakened a dormant interest in medicine in John. He left the seminary and completed his pre-med courses at UT Arlington, starting medical school at Texas A&M in 1988. After Deirdre's complete recovery, she went on to complete a Ph.D. at Baylor in religious studies with a concentration in the history of Christianity. John's general surgery residency was at Parkland Hospital in Dallas and included a two-year stint doing basic science research in lung responses to injury. He then stayed at Parkland f or an additional year as a fellow in trauma and surgical critical care. Following another year as an attending surgeon at UT Southwestern he moved to Cincinnati where he completed another fellowship in pediatric surgery.
