Welcome to Sather Tower,
known as the Campanile, UC Berkeley's most enduring landmark.

Completed in 1914, the Campanile was a gift from Jane K. Sather.

At 307 feet high, it is the worlds third largest bell-and-clock tower.

61-bell carillion (12 original bells installed in 1917)

Bells weigh 19 to 10,500 pounds

M-F 7:50 a.m., noon, 6 p.m.

  • Excellent Performance I wish I had been there in person to hear this wonderful piece by Tiffany Ng. I grew up in Berkeley, CA Sather Tower was no stranger to me, I remember when I was a child going up the observation deck for the 1st time with my mother.

  • Greetings from the performer, Tiffany Ng! I'm on the carillon staff of UC Berkeley. Just wanted to note that the pieces being played are from Belgian carillonneur Geert D'hollander's suite "Four Flourishes."

  • I know a lot of the students now are Asian, but wow they get to play the carillon too.
