since there where 8 impulses per revolution as opposed to 4, but each impulse happens in pairs due to the rocking link motion, this gave the kings their iconic exhaust bark that sounded like a 2 cylinder, but much more powerful, because they used 2 valve gear inside the frames. this gave them their clean lines, no outside link motion.they could have had 8 distinct exhaust impulses, but that would probably mean external valve motion.

@robertgift Yes there are two cylinders placed between the frames. The left hand outside and left hand inside cranks are set at 180 degrees to each other, as are the two right hand cylinders. The left hand side is set at 90 degrees to the right hand side, thus producing four exhaust beats per revolution.

@bigben5051 Oh. There are TWO cylinders under the boiler? Did not know thathey could fitwo there, though I do see the two protrusions in front.
There would be EIGHT chuffs perevolution.

Also, the sound is a little faster than the RPMs.
