Because depression and/ or anger and/or fear are all some of the psychological defencemechanism we use in the stage of a crisis calles 'the reaction-phase'. In traditional psychology the stages in a crises are divided into different phases where these defencemechanisms play a big role.

I thought the 5 stages were denial, anger, bargaining, depression and then acceptance? Either the Simpsons were really that old and they used an older system where fear came before bargaining and depression is not included or they left it out on purpose to make it funny.
