In my class "cued speech" you have to do a final performance. Again, it's a visual system for every phoneme. It's not perfect at all, but I practiced a lot, so I am sharing it! :)

  • This is not perfect at all! Remember, I am trying to cue every phoneme in her voice. And we were creative, so I decided to dance a little! :) I just thought I should tie this in to the videos of the deaf children cueing...we are both learning, see?

  • Me encantaaaa!_D

  • I think you have really easy to read hand shapes and great prosody. It was a little bit difficult to understand because your rhythm didn't match that of the song, and sometimes you're placements were less accurate than you'd want them to be. But, this was two years ago, and I bet you rock out now. I'd love to see you do this song again two years later! :)

  • @ASL8306 I think when you're raising children you have to make choices for them that you think will help them succeed in life. I hated braces, shots, wearing glasses, brushing my teeth, and math as a kid, but my parents knew those things were important so they made the decision that I had to do them. I know some deaf people who like speech therapy, and some who don't.

I know a lot of deaf signers and a lot of deaf cuers. All of the deaf cuers are really happy with their parents decision.

  • I found it hard to follow, you are supposed to cue in sync with your lips. After all that's what cueing is. If you are just learning, then I suggest you learn the song first and become familiar with it. I suggest you become fluent in cueing before attempting to translate. :]

  • I think you did a beautiful job! I want to learn to cue!

  • Agree with you, but..at the same time about the "hardly think anyone would force a person who didn't want to speak to learn", I'm pretty sure they don't ask babies and children what they want.. how many D/deaf people do you know that loved learning how to speak and enjoyed speech therapy? Maybe cueing helps them enjoy it, I don't know..i don't know any cuers personally..

  • lrosowsky: "Icelandic sign! Where'd you learn that?" Try Iceland ;)

  • Icelandic sign! Where'd you learn that?! :D I feel the same way about ASL. Yet, from what I've learned, cued speech is not a replacement, language, or an attempt to fix the d/Deaf. It is just a way to communicate the sounds and to help anyone deaf learning to speak do that and/or read. That said, I hardly think anyone would force a person who didn't want to speak to learn. Also as a slightly related sidenote; "Children of a Lesser God" is a great movie.

  • This is really Great (:
