I thank you a bunch. I saw the pattern in a store and thought I could figure it out on my own only to make a mess of it...though I was nearly right this showed me where I went oh so wrong. As well I thank you for the "magic circle" it'll make granny squares and such so much easier not having to remember how many for base chain.

This is a great tutorial. I am planning on making a baby blanket out of this...but, my question is: If I wanted to chain instead of doing the magic circle, how many chains would I do to start out? Thanks for all your great videos.

Thank you. I would estimate a chain 4.

Teresa, with the 6 sided granny square, and it be adapted to an eight sided square using the magic circle?

You can use the magic circle. That will be a lot of stitches so you may want to use a chain or adapt the extra stitches a round later so you do not put to many stitches in the first round.

It will increase just like the granny square. As you include increase stitches in the corners, it will continue to get larger.
